"The Return of "St. Luke " exhibition at Pushkin museum until 9 September
Pushkin State Museum of Fine Arts holds the exhibition "Return of "St. Luke". Western European paintings of VI-XVIII centuries from the Museum of Ukraine". For the first time exhibition displays 100 works of masters, performed in different genres and styles.
Deputy Director of the Pushkin Museum Zinaida Bonami said: "One of the goals of this exhibition is the restoration of a common cultural and professional space of Russia and the CIS". "The project should be an event for our museum. It is implemented within the framework of the series "In the shadow of amicable muses..." and will continue the series of exhibitions, opening the most important art collections of the CIS countries", - said Bonami.
The basis of the exhibition is presented by works from nine museums in Ukraine: from Kiev, Odessa, Chernigov, Lvov, Kharkov, Zhitomir, Poltava. The exhibits were selected with the participation of experts of Pushkin Museum.
Paintings, represented at the exhibition, include works of the famous "Golden Age" portraitist Frans Hals - "Evangelist Matthew "and "Evangelist Luke". Art lovers will also see two Byzantine icons of the VI century, the painting "Perseus and Andromeda" by Giuseppe Cesari and "The Baptism of the eunuch by Philip the Apostle", dating from the middle of the XVI century and performed by the Netherlands Renaissance master Jan van Skorel.
Other unique items will be "Portrait of Pope Pius VI" by the famous Italian painter of the Rococo and Neoclassicism era Pompeo Batoni, "The Holy Family with John the Baptist on the way to Egypt" by Paris Bordone, "God of the Scheldt River, Cybele, and the Goddess of the City of Antwerp" by Peter Paul Rubens, "Cupid and sleeping nymphs" by Jacob Jordaens.
