Museum of Mayakovsky

The exposition of the museum, opened in 1989, had been created as an experiment, contrary to all traditions of museum design. This is a figurative and symbolic model of creative world and time of Mayakovsky. The poet, meeting you at the entrance with the uppercase alphabetic character "Я" (“I”), embodying himself and identical to the name of his first collected poems, will immediately start with each of you the "talk about time and about self" in first person in a language familiar to him - the language of images, symbols, metaphors, allegories and hyperboles.

The exposition of the museum is a free flowing space, devoid of the deaf walls and double floors. Its central nerve is a memorial staircase. It leads to the 4th floor into the space of the former communal flat to a small room, where from the spring of 1919 during the 11 years Mayakovsky had been living and working and where on the 14th of April, 1930 the fatal shot of "comrade Mauser" was heard, marking with the "bullet point" the end of his life.

The museum is living a full life. In addition to excursions the lectures are given, poetic and musical evenings are arranged, theater performances are held. In the staging of the Moscow theater "Komediant" each month the performance of "He – himslef» is held (Essays on the life and work of Mayakovsky). All his actions unfold in the museum environment.
