Moscow House of Photography was founded in 1996 as Russia's first museum dedicated to the development of photography.
During its existence, the museum has presented more than 1,300 of exhibitions. For more than 15 years the Moscow House of Photography hosts international festivals: Moscow "Biennale" and "Fashion and Style in Photography", for more than a decade - the contest for the best photos from Moscow "Silver Camera". The museum is actively publishing - for the time of its existence it has released more than a hundred books and catalogs.
The museum was the first in Moscow to host exhibition of Helmut Newton, Bettina Rheims, Henri Cartier-Bresson, William Klein, Orlan, Pierre and Gilles, Paolo Roversi, Peter Lindbergh, Horst P. Horst, Norman Parkinson, Alexander Rodchenko, Brassaï, Nan Goldin, Max Penson, Georgiya Petrusov, Annette Messager, David Lynch, Yuri Rost, Sarah Moon, Andreas Gursky, Erwin Olaf, Ralph Gibson, Vic Myunis, Dennis Hopper.
In 2009 at the Moscow House of Photography was opened the Multimedia Art Museum Moscow, which today organizes exhibitions of contemporary art and multimedia projects.
Also, the museum relates to the School of Photography and Multimedia. Alexander Rodchenko which teachers are the best of Russian experts in the field of theory and practice of photography and multimedia in Russia: Catherine Tar, Oleg Klimov, Irina Meglinskaya, Igor Mukhin, Alexei Shulgin, Alexander the Gospel and many others.
The "Multimedia Complex of Actual Arts" includes: Moscow House of Photography, Multimedia Art Museum Moscow and the School of Photography and Multimedia of Alexander Rodchenko.
