Museum of Modern Art is not even two decades old. It was opened in 1999 with support of the Government of Moscow and the Moscow Department of Culture. It was founded and led by sculptor Zurab Tsereteli.

Personal collection of this famous sculptor, numbering more than two thousand works of artists and sculptors of the XX century, has become the foundation of the museum collection.
