Woe from Wit

The "Woe from Wit" by Alexander Griboyedov in Sovremennik: June 16, 19:00.

A play in verse, a comedy with a trail... In this case, it is important and that the play is staged by not just a guest artist from the neighboring countries, but by the chief director of the Vakhtangov theatre - Rimas Tuminas. His previous work in the Sovremennik - "We play... Schiller! "- was unanimously appreciated as one of the major events of that season, about the same is expected from this collaboration.

The leitmotif of this wintry and sad story, having a fair amount of bitter irony, is a waltz, once written by Alexander Griboyedov and arranged all over again by the composer  Faustas Latenas. Someone in the audience certainly will not recognize it and mistake for modern music, just like the Griboyedov's comedy itself, entirely bankrupt of antiquity, received in exchange a modern rhythm and sharpness".
